Grant named Deputy Dean

Dean of the University of Sydney Business School Professor Geoffrey Garrett has announced the appointment of internationally-renowned scholar of organisational studies Professor David Grant as the School's new Deputy Dean (Academic).
"Professor Grant is a world class scholar with a distinguished record of academic leadership. With David at the helm, the Business School's academic future is very bright", Professor Garrett said.
Grant's principal responsibilities as Deputy Dean will include identifying and cultivating research strengths, aligning research with the imperatives of the business community, and strategically managing the recruitment and retention of academic staff.
Professor Grant is an international leader in analysing the impact of discourse on the management and leadership of organisations and has developed innovative behavioural techniques for developing leadership skills among executives and managers, including those used on the University of Sydney Business School Global Executive MBA. His research has been published in journals including the Academy of Management Review, the British Journal of Management, Human Relations, Journal of Management Studies and Organization Studies.
Grant is a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia, is co-founder and co-director of the International Centre for Research in Organizational Discourse, Strategy and Change, currently holds two Australian Research Council Discovery Grants, and is serving on the Economics and Commerce Research Evaluation Committee for the 2012 Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) initiative.Before moving to Australia in 2000 he was Head of the Department of Management at King's College, London, where he still holds an honorary visiting position.

Professor Grant has served as Associate Dean Research since 2007, succeeded in that role by Professor Elizabeth Cowley. In addition to his academic leadership, Professor Grant has provided executive education on leadership, management and change to corporate clients in Australia and overseas including Citi, Darley, the Japanese Employers Federation and the UK Ministry of Defence.
Grant earned his BA from the University of Essex and his MSc and PhD from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
