Julie McKay to address TEDxCanberra
06 Sep 2012
Julie McKay, Executive Director of UN Women Australia and recent graduate from the University of Sydney Business School Global Executive MBA has been selected as a speaker for the upcoming TEDxCanberra event.
Julie will join a range of presenters for the event, which will address the theme "An Optimistic Challenge". Other presenters include ABC journalist Karen Barlow and Nobel Prize-winning physicist Brian Schmidt.
The content of Julie's presentation on Saturday is a closely guarded secret, but she is expecting that it will cause some controversy. "I know there'll be a lot of people who don't agree with my ideas, but if there's one person who does want to do something about it, that's what I'm after," Julie told citynews.com.au recently.
"When you look at the statistics around things like violence against women, it's very easy to think negatively," she said. "Instead it should be about, 'what are the different things we can do to drive change?'"
TEDxCanberra is a volunteer-run, non-profit ideas event, inspired by the original TED events in the US. TEDxCanberra 2012 will address the theme "An Optimistic Challenge" and will take place on Saturday, 8 September at the Playhouse, Canberra Theatre.
