Methodological and Empirical Advances in Financial Analysis (MEAFA) 5th Annual Meeting
14 Feb 2012
The University of Sydney Business School's fifth annual MEAFA meeting - on Methodological and Empirical Advances in Financial Analysis - has brought together an international and interdisciplinary audience from accounting, finance and business analytics to debate innovations in the analysis of business performance.
The interactive forum included international keynote contributions from well-known experts in the field at Columbia University, the University of Mannheim, Penn State University, Massey University and the Stockholm School of Economics, along with leading Australian academics and PhD candidates from the University of Sydney Business School. Each presentation preceded a detailed critique by a discussant and a general discussion amongst participants, allowing each research study to receive extensive scrutiny and feedback through an array of interdisciplinary lenses.
The Chair of the Meeting, Prof Stuart McLeay, and the General Convenor of MEAFA, Dr Demetris Christodoulou, regards the MEAFA meeting as a unique platform for Australian academics to absorb knowledge from internationally renowned scholars in this subject area. They noted: "The 2012 MEAFA meeting evidenced the strong network of key experts from a variety of fields that share a common passion for informing financial analysis research with advances in economics, finance and statistical methods. Of particular note, the forum affords academics and exemplary PhD students the opportunity to receive immediate feedback on their research, making it a challenging, enriching and rewarding experience for all involved."
MEAFA offers significant top-up PhD scholarships to show their ongoing commitment to cross-disciplinary, cross-institutional training of PhD students. MEAFA also provides advanced quantitative professional developments workshops that are widely recognised by industry, government and academia for their state-of-the-art content.
