Business School honours 2013 scholarship recipients
08 May 2013
The University of Sydney Business School honoured its scholarship recipients for 2013 with a ceremony and reception in the University's Great Hall on 7 May.
This year's ceremony saw 95 students on-hand to receive a wide range of scholarships, aimed at promoting tomorrow's business leaders and helping to foster and develop the talent of the Business School's best and brightest students.
"It was enormously gratifying to see such a promising group of students at such a wonderful event," said Professor Tyrone Carlin, Co-Dean of the Business School. "The Business School believes in the importance of recognising each of our scholarship recipients for 2013, and we look forward to watching them develop their potential as future leaders. I would like to take one further opportunity to congratulate all of the Business School students who have received scholarships this year."
The 2012 recipients of the Dean's Undergraduate Scholarship in Business, Mr Maxwell Rigby and Ms Jenny Huang, addressed more than 200 scholarship recipients and their supporters.
The inaugural MBA "First" Scholarship recipient, Anita Mitchell, delivered the occasional address. Anita, who is part of the Business School's first cohort of Master of Business Administration (MBA) students, spoke of the importance of support for students; not only the material support that a scholarship can provide, but also the crucial role that family and friends can play throughout a student's academic career.
"Many of the scholarships the Business School offers would not be possible without the ongoing and very generous contributions made by our alumni, supporters and corporate sponsors," added Professor Carlin. "The Business School would like to thank everyone who is involved in helping our students to reach their full potential."
A total of 114 students from across the undergraduate and postgraduate programs were awarded scholarships in 2013. Since 2010, the Business School has awarded scholarships to a total value in excess of $5 million, in recognition of the academic, sporting and community leadership of its high-achieving students.
