24 Jul 2014

The Business School has appointed one of Australia's leading management educators, Professor Guy Ford, as the Director of its Master of Business Administration (MBA) program.

Professor Ford has enjoyed a long and distinguished academic and business career which began in 1979 with the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

The Business School's Associate Dean (Management Education), Professor Richard Hall, welcomed Professor Ford's appointment describing him as one of the nation's leaders in the field of management education.

"Our MBA program which is leadership-focused, industry-oriented and experiential in style, is quickly acquiring a reputation for excellence in its field," Professor Hall said. "Professor Ford brings tremendous experience and a deserved reputation for teaching and management excellence to the leadership of our MBA."

Before joining the Business School, Professor Ford was Deputy Dean at the Macquarie Graduate School of Management (MGSM). He previously held an academic appointment at Charles Sturt University and was a visiting fellow at the University of New South Wales.

At MGSM he was also Associate Professor in Management (Finance) and Director of the School's MBA program. Professor Ford also served as Interim Dean of the School.

While he has only now been appointed to the staff, Professor Ford has had a long association with the University of Sydney Business School through collaborative research projects.

In recent years he has worked with the Business School's Associate Dean, (Undergraduate Studies), Associate Professor Nigel Finch; Professor Suresh Cuganesan and Professor Tyrone Carlin who was recently appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Registrar) of the University of Sydney.

Professor Ford's research focuses are on the areas of corporate finance and risk management in banking institutions.

The University of Sydney Business School launched its ambitious and groundbreaking MBA program in February last year as part of its drive to enter the upper ranks of global business education.

Dean of the Business School, Professor Greg Whitwell, welcomed Professor Ford's appointment as both timely and appropriate. "Our mission is to shape Australia's future leaders and I believe that Professor Ford will help us to fulfil that vital undertaking," Professor Whitwell concluded.

Professor Ford will take up his appointment on Monday 18th August.
