Academic Association of Historians in Australian and New Zealand Business Schools (AAHANZBS)

The Business and Labour History Group, with the support of the University of Sydney Business School, is launching a new organisation called the Academic Association of Historians in Australian and New Zealand Business Schools (AAHANZBS). It aims to bring business historians, labour historians, economic historians, accounting historians, mining historians, transport historians and other historians in business and management schools in Australia and New Zealand together in one umbrella organisation to promote historical research and teaching. It plans to hold an annual conference with sessions on research and teaching, which will also have a postgraduate forum. The organisation will also lobby governments for greater recognition in government research grants and in journal rankings.

An important part of the launching of the Association will be the organisation of conference at the University of Sydney in December 2009, which will be opened by a leading business history scholar from the US or UK. The conference will focus on research and teaching, with a special workshop for research students. There will be also a formal meeting to adopt the rules of the new organisation, set membership fees and elect officers.

There is no charge initially for joining the organisation.

If you are interested in being involved send you name, institution and email address to business.blhg@sydney.edu.au

The third annual conference of AAHANZBS will be held on 8-9 December 2011, at AUT University, Auckland, New Zealand.

The theme for this year's event is 'Change and Control: Perspective from Business and Labour History'.
