The CRG will be holding a seminar on Wednesday 18 June 2014 in the Darlington Centre Boardroom, City Rd, The University of Sydney from 1-2 pm.
Peter Knock, The Chief Executive Officer The Co-op, will speak on "The Co-op Retail Transformation."
The Co-op grew and developed quite successfully for over 50 years by supplying textbooks and learning materials to Members at discounted pricing. The digital disruptions taking place across many industries have particularly affected the traditional bookselling model. Book selling, publishing and even learning institutions are on a burning platform. The Co-op is endeavouring to see through the smoke and develop new foundations to take the business forward for another 50 years supporting our countries future leaders.
Peter has been a retailer for most of his working career, in small business as well as working with some of the country's largest public and privately owned businesses. Myer, Dymocks and Thrifty are amongst them. In the digital sphere he created Australia's largest online B2B catering marketplace dealing with most of Australia's top 1,000 companies. Peter is a founding Director and Board Member of the Business Council of Co-operatives and Mutuals; representing 13 million Australian Co-op and Mutual members. Peter is now leading the Co-op as CEO. The Co-op is Australia's largest Co-operative by members, and largest member owned retailer with over 1 million members. Up to 100,000 new members join the Co-op annually.
With stores on over half the University campuses across the nation, they serve over 60% of the country's tertiary student population at any one time. The Co-op is Australia's oldest active online retailer, selling online since early 1996. The Co-op has advanced significantly since starting on Sydney University Campus in 1958 and has now moved to offer all worldwide tertiary published learning content through their own digital portal. Peter holds a Grad Dip and an MBA.
