Social Accounting, Mega Accounting and Beyond: A Festschrift in Honour of MR Mathews, Centre for Social and Environmental Accounting Research, St Andrews University Scotland.

Synopsis
Social accounting is starting to "come of age". It is maturing in both influence and confidence and is dealing with increasingly critical issues. Social accounting involves a growing international community of teachers, practitioners and scholars. In 2005, one of the earliest, most supportive and influential of the social accounting community retired from full-time academic work. This collection is put together by his colleagues and friends as a tribute to Reg Mathews' unstinting support of the nascent social accounting movement. This unique collection of original contributed essays and selected re-prints of Mathews' articles stands as milestone in social accounting's tentative groping towards maturity.

The text is a careful balance of re-printed publications and specially commissioned pieces. The backbone of the Festschrift is a selection of Reg Mathew's key articles published over the years with particular regard to those which both attract the highest levels of citations and have stood the test of time. The collection also contains ten specially written essays (plus an editorial essay). The contributing authors have taken the opportunity to develop a diverse range of themes in original and scholarly ways. Whilst each essay has been prompted by issues raised in Reg Mathews' work, none of the essays are direct tributes to him. The result is a unique and highly stimulating academic collection, which also stands as a tribute to the life's work of one of the first social accountants.
