Bio

Dr Chinmay Pattnaik is a senior lecturer at the Discipline of International Business, The University of Sydney Business School. He serves in the editorial review board of Journal of World Business, Asia Pacific Journal of Management and Journal of Korea Trade. His research philosophy is based on "contextualizing theories," i.e., to critically evaluate and build on existing international business and strategy theories in emerging market contexts. In particular his research focuses on the (i) motivation and process of internationalization; (ii) corporate diversification strategy during institutional transition, and the (iii) impact of corporate governance on external stakeholders. He has examined the above topics in firms based in India, China and Korea.

His research articles have appeared in leading international journals including Journal of International Business Studies, Management International Review, Journal of Business Research, Asia Pacific Journal of Management and Management Decision. His co-edited book, volume 15 of International Finance Review on ‘Emerging Market Firms in Global Economy’ has recently been published (2014) by Emerald Publishing UK.

He is the Director of the Master of International Business (MIB) program at the University of Sydney.

Developing Linkages with India and South Korea to Build a Research Program on Comparative Corporate Sustainability Practices

Corporate sustainability is an evolving management paradigm which requires the corporations to pursue societal goals - social justice and equity, environmental protection, and inclusive economic growth together with economic profit. The corporate sector is under increasing pressure from the regulatory authorities, civil society and mass media to adopt sustainable management practices. This project intends to identify (1) the sustainability management practices adopted by the domestic corporations and subsidiaries of multinational corporations (MNCs) in Australia, India and South Korea (b) the major motivations behind adoption of such practices and (c) the challenges faced by these companies in adopting such practices. The project is conducted through collaboration between University of Sydney Business School, Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC), India and Yonsei School of Business (YSB), Yonsei University, South Korea.
