After two years of legal practice in corporations in the UK, Geoffrey Hart began teaching commercial law at La Trobe University. He is currently a senior lecturer in the discipline of Business Law, specialising in income tax and commercial law. He is a co-author of Australian Tax Analysis sixth edition by Coleman, Hart, McKercher and Ting published by Law Book Co which is a division of Thomsons. First published in 1994 by Butterworths and now in its sixth edition, the work is over a thousand pages and is widely prescribed in both commerce faculties and law schools. It incorporates relevant principles of contract, property, trusts, partnership and company law so that taxation can be analysed in its commercial setting.
Geoffrey Hart is also co-author of the 5th Edition of Barrett & Green's Principles of Income Tax, which was a leading primer in Taxation Law. He is also co author of Principles of Taxation Law together with Cynthia Coleman, Sunita Jogarajan, Kerrie Sadiq, John McLaren, Richard Krever published by Thomsons 2008. He has published refereed articles on intellectual property, company law, and securities industry law and has worked as a consultant in intellectual property law. He has co-authored books on business tax planning which were commissioned by Horwath and Horwath one of the leading accounting firms in the field of tax planning.
As well as lecturing within the Faculty at both the undergraduate and postgraduate level in contract, property law and income tax, Geoffrey has conducted continuing education classes for the last 20 years for overseas graduates who wish to obtain local qualifications in Australian Income Tax.
