Jane Andrew joined the Discipline of Accounting at the University of Sydney in 2010. Prior to joining the Faculty, she was a senior lecturer in accounting at the University of Wollongong where, in 2000 she completed a PhD in Accounting. Jane is also a member of the CPA Australia.
Jane's PhD research focused on the development of environmental accounting and accountability in public policy. Her work used contemporary social theory to explore the emergence of international mechanisms for environmental accountability. The specific focus of her work was on the Kyoto Protocol. As a result, Jane's environmental accounting research interests have continued and she is particularly interested in emerging carbon accounting practices, regulation and policy.
Jane's interest in accountability has expanded to include research into government accountability. In 2009, she co-authored a book with Professor Warwick Funnel and Dr. Robert Jupe titled "In Government We Trust: Market Failure and the Delusions of Privatisation" (UNSW Press). She has written extensively on public accountability and prison privatisation. As a result of this work, she was invited to participate in the 2009 NSW Parliamentary Inquiry into Prison Privatisation.
Jane's work has been published in top ranking international journals such as Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal and Critical Perspectives on Accounting. She also acts as an ad hoc reviewer for these journals as well as Accounting Forum, Australian Accounting Review and she is on the editorial board of the Australasian Accounting and Business Finance Journal.
Jane teaches intermediate financial accounting at both the postgraduate and undergraduate level and she also teaches part of the honours methodology unit of study. She has also supervised a number of research students at the Honours, Masters and PhD level.
