Jane Andrew joined the University of Sydney in 2010.
Prior to joining the Business School, she was a senior lecturer at the University of Wollongong having completed her PhD in 2000.
Jane's PhD research explored emerging regulatory architecture designed to encourage environmental accountability within public policy. Her work used contemporary social theory to analyse international mechanisms developed to support inter-governmental accountability for climate change abatement.
Jane's research interests in this field have continued and she has published extensively on emerging carbon reporting practices, regulation and policy. She has also made a number of contributions to the development of policy at the local, state and Federal level.
Jane's interest in accountability has expanded to include research into government accountability. In 2009, she co-authored a book with Professor Warwick Funnel and Dr. Robert Jupe titled "In Government We Trust: Market Failure and the Delusions of Privatisation" (UNSW Press/Pluto Press). She has written extensively on public accountability, immigration detention and prison privatisation. Her work in this area means she is often called on to contribute to discussions of public policy.
Currently Jane is engaged in a large project that explores the impact of leaking in organisational accountability.
Jane's work has been published in top ranking international journals such as Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal and Critical Perspectives on Accounting. She also acts as an ad hoc reviewer for these journals as well as Accounting Forum, Australian Accounting Review.
Jane is in the Editorial Board of leading international journals such as Abacus, Critical Perspectives on Accounting and Accounting, Auditing and Accountability. She is also a Fellow of CPA.
Jane has also supervised a number of research students at the Honours, Masters and PhD level and is currently the Postgraduate Research Coordinator and also the Honours Coordinator.
Associate Professor Jane Andrew authors an opinion piece published by The Conversation about the break down of the cost of Australia's prisons.
Max Baker and Jane Andrew co-authored an op-ed piece examining the implications of the reforms of the National Security Agency announced by President Obama.
