John Apelbaum joined ITLS as an Adjunct Associate Professor. John has over thirty years experience in transport planning and management having implemented and advised on major transport initiatives for the private and public sectors in Australia and overseas. In addition to establishing the Apelbaum Consulting Group in 1989, John established the Centre for Transport, Energy and the Environment, which developed methodologies for analysing and forecasting the National and jurisdictional transport task, energy consumed and emissions. He has consulted and written extensively on transport management and policy issues in all sectors of Australian transport. Prior to establishing the ACG, John gained industry experience at the Australian Railway Research and Development Organisation, the Shell Company of Australia, VicRoads, the Port of Melbourne Authority and the Australian National Line.
John has been a Board member of the Transport & Logistics Industry Skills Council Pty Ltd where he also chaired the audit and risk committee and the Australasian Natural Gas Vehicles Council. Other appointments include: member of the NSW National Emissions Trading Taskforce, member of the Nous Group Expert Panel For Reducing Victoria's Greenhouse Gas Emissions, member of the Victorian Freight And Logistics Strategy Expert Review Panel for the Victorian Department Of Infrastructure, member of the Program Committee for the International Symposium on Automotive Technology and Automation, member of the Bureau of Transport and Communication Economics working group on transport greenhouse gas emissions inventory and a member of the Society of Automotive Engineer's Energy and Environment Committee. John was also a visiting member of staff and guest lecturer at the Monash Mt Eliza Business School.
