John joined the faculty in 2003 from the University of Wollongong, and previously has been on faculty at the University of Sydney and the University of New England. His research focus is on equity valuation and measurement error with publications in a number of major academic journals including Abacus, the Journal of Business Finance & Accounting, and the Australian Accounting Review. He has given numerous conference and seminar papers in Australia and overseas.

In 1993 he was a recipient of a National Teaching Development Grant. He has written numerous case studies and developed the effective use of case material in his teaching method, particularly in financial analysis for which he has received high commendation. In 2002 he developed a new course in Global Electronic Finance.

He has significant professional experience as a corporate advisor. This includes expert valuation and accounting advice on takeovers, corporate strategy, financial systems and arbitration matters to major accounting firms, multinational companies and statutory bodies in Australia, the US, Japan, NZ, Egypt and Singapore. From 1998-2001 he was engaged by the National Library Board of Singapore to redesign the distribution and supply chain for their library network, which handles over 24 million loan transactions per year.
