Michael Allen is a Senior Lecturer in Marketing at University of Sydney. Previously, he lectured at the University of Newcastle (in psychology) and Griffith University (in marketing). He has a PhD in Consumer Psychology, an MA in Consumer/Industrial Research and worked at a market research firm in the States.

Michael's research interests are inter-disciplinary, linking psychology with marketing. One of his major research programmes has been the development of a conceptual model of how the human values that individuals endorse influence their preferences for products. Besides examining how the model explains consumer choice in general, Michael has been investigating how the model can illuminate consumers' food choices and their sensory experiences of the food.

He has published in the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Cross-cultural Psychology, Appetite, and other journals. He is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Economic Psychology.
