Postgraduate Research Studies

Minimum Entry Requirements

Doctor of Philosophy

  • Undergraduate degree with First or Second class (Division One) Honours in the proposed field of study from an Australian university or equivalent.

OR

  • Undergraduate degree and a Masters degree in the proposed field of study from an Australian university or equivalent. Masters degree must have at least an 80% average and a research thesis component that comprised 25% of one year of study.

Notes:

  1. When assessing academic qualifications greater weight is placed on the most recent qualification that is relevant to the proposed field of study.
  2. If a prospective applicant does not have a degree in the proposed field of study but meets the grade requirements above then a statement outlining how their degree qualification is relevant to the discipline and the proposed research topic should be provided at the EOI stage. The statement should be up two pages long.
  3. Demonstration of research potential either by publication, previous work experience or related coursework will also be taken into consideration.
  4. Other factors taken into consideration when assessing a research application are the quality of the research proposal and the availability of a supervisor within the School.
  5. The Discipline of Finance only accepts full time candidates.

Master of Philosophy

  • Undergraduate degree and a postgraduate degree in the proposed field of study from an Australian university or equivalent. Postgraduate degree must have at least a 75% average.

Research Proposal

Applicants must submit a research proposal as part of their application. This should be a written proposal (minimum of 1500 words) detailing the proposed area of research, the methodology to be used, data sources and bibliography. Prospective applicants who are unsure about their research proposal may contact the appropriate Postgraduate Coordinator for a preliminary evaluation.
