Our History

WOS has a long tradition of research and teaching on work-related themes, pioneering the discipline of industrial relations in Australia in the 1950s. Later, the group built upon this foundation by expanding into labour history and human resource management. From that foundation, WOS has developed an innovative and comprehensive approach to the following areas:

  • Work and labour markets
  • Human resource management
  • Employment relations
  • Strategy and change
  • Leadership and sustainability
  • Organisations and communication
  • Gender and diversity at work
  • Unions and Collective Bargaining
  • People and Technology
  • Organisations and Social Media
