Working conditions and the health and safety of room attendants in luxury hotels 2010

This project investigated safe working practices for housekeeping staff in Sydney luxury hotels, using data drawn from key informant interviews with hotel HR managers, supervisors, operations managers of temporary employment agencies, representatives of industry associations and trade unions as well as focus groups of housekeeping workers. It examined in depth the context of housekeeping work, the nature of work done, and issues associated with workplace injuries for employees and employers. The research focussed on the key constraints and opportunities for improving health and safety outcomes in luxury hotels and profiled best health and safety practice in the sector.
