Travelling to Australia

Visas
All non-Australian citizens travelling to Australia require a visa. Overseas visitors seeking to attend, or participate in, a conference in Australia should, in most cases, apply for a short stay business visitor visa (subclass 456). Information about this important requirement can be found on the Australian Government Department of Immigration website.

You can apply for a visa online through the Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) if you are coming from an ETA eligible country. The ETA is a visa that is stored electronically, rather than a stamp or label in your passport. It will show up as part of your passport record when Customs officials check your passport details. If you have a valid New Zealand passport, you can travel to Australia and you will be issued with a Special Category Visa (SCV) on arrival. You can apply for an ETA online at the Australian Government Department of Immigration website or through a travel agent. A full list of ETA-eligible passports is available here. We strongly recommend that you take out travel and health insurance for your visit to Australia.

General information

Dress code
Smart casual is recommended for the duration of the Conference and social functions.

Dining out
Sydney's multicultural population is reflected in the wide variety of excellent restaurants offering a diversity of cuisine from around the world. Bistros, restaurants and cafes offer varied menus, prices and decor. Tipping is optional in Australia and service charges are not added to accounts by hotels and restaurants. However, you may tip in restaurants for special service. At any time, tipping is your choice.
