Internal Sydney Medical School Process for the International Program Development Fund (IPDF)

The International Program Development Fund (IPDF) is run through the Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor (International) and provides catalyst grants to academic staff to encourage international research collaboration and is an important tool in supporting initiatives in internationalisation. The aim is to foster international partnerships in research, teaching and learning, capacity building and other areas with high profile partners in priority regions. In response to a review of the IPDF process, the DVCI has implemented a new online application system this year for IPDF applications. The 2012 round of the IPDF was announced in May. The on-line application opens Monday 20 June and closes 19th August.

As we have done previously, the Office for Global Health (OGH) will coordinate an internal advice and review process for Sydney Medical School applications PRIOR to final online submission to IPDF secretariat. This allows time to advice and assist with preparation as well as review penultimate applications before the Dean has to rank them for matched funding.

Please make note of the following INTERNAL SMS DEADLINES which have been approved by the Dean:

  1. No later than 26th June: SMS staff let OGH (or Hoc Mai for Vietnam applications) know ASAP whether they are thinking of submitting an IPDF application so that we can advise and assist re: new process, criteria, SMS priorities etc. The sooner you notify us the better.
  2. By 8th August (9.30am): SMS staff MUST submit their PENULTIMATE applications internally to fiona.thien@sydney.edu.au in OGH (either by email or hardcopy) for internal review, discussion and approval by OGH/Hoc Mai and the Dean. Any final feedback will be given by the 16th August prior to online submission.
  3. 19th August: All IDPF applicants MUST submit their own applications using the online IPDF system by this date. OGH and Hoc Mai are not responsible for submission of applications.

Sydney Medical School applications focussing on our research themes and in the following priority regions are strongly encouraged (but not essential): Africa; East Asia; South East Asia; South Asia; Pacific

Applications from early career researchers or first time applicants are also encouraged by SMS and the DVCI.
