Biographical details

Ian Kerridge is an internationally recognized scholar in bioethics and the philosophy of medicine. Since 2003 he has been Associate Professor in Bioethics and Director of the Centre for Values, Ethics and the Law in Medicine (VELiM) at the University of Sydney and Staff Haematologist/BMT Physician at Westmead Hospital, Sydney. He is also currently the Chair of the Australian Bone Marrow Donor Registry (ABMDR) Ethics Committee, board member of the Australasian Association of Bioethics and Health Law (AABHL) and a member of the NSW Clinical Ethics Advisory Group. Research interests

Associate Professor Kerridge's research focuses on the philosophical, moral and socio-cultural concepts, frameworks and issues that underpin health, health policy and biomedicine including in public health, research and clinical care. His research explores such topics as public health ethics, stem cells, end-of-life care, the experience of illness and survival, synthetic genomics, organ transplantation, cord blood and tissue donation, research ethics, publication and the pharmaceutical industry.

Teaching areas

In addition to performing his own research, Associate Professor Kerridge supervises research students from medicine, philosophy, nursing and the humanities in Honours, Masters, and Doctoral projects. He is also actively engaged in undergraduate and postgraduate education and is one of the Coordinators of the Masters in Bioethics program at the University of Sydney.
