Research interests

Associate Professor Pu Xia is an expert in cell signalling and has been a pioneer in the area of sphingosine kinase (SphK) and sphingolipids. He has played major roles in establishing and fostering the development of this area both nationally and internationally. His research has helped to conceptualise SphK as a key signalling enzyme that mediates a wide variety of biologic functions, including cell survival, proliferation and oncogenesis. Xia's lab has now focused on the translational-based research exploiting the implications of this signalling system in inflammation, cancer and diabetes.
