Sydney College of the Arts (SCA)

Sydney College of the Arts SCA

Overview

Graduates of the Sydney College of the Arts are resourceful in creating employment opportunities through showcasing their individual art and talents. Finding regular work or a permanent job as an artist can be a challenge and for some, self-employment, short-term residencies or commissions are the main career opportunities.

Fine art graduates become independent professional artists with careers in the commissioned and public funding sectors or splinter off into the broader creative arena leading to careers in art curating, education and research, museum or art gallery management, theatre, film or craft based opportunities such as costume design or sound production or as creative directors.

Fine art graduates are also recognised in a business environment where the visual image is paramount, such as advertising and marketing, exhibition design, publishing and illustrating.

Alternative pathways resulting from further study or specialist training in fields that are socially or educationally focused, would lead to teaching, art therapy and working for community arts projects.

Technology-based arts graduates move into careers in behind-the-scenes production and advanced technology fields such as multimedia, digital animation and graphic design with more artists now working in corporations as well as in studios.
