Graduate Edge - A Students Perspective

Annie Pang - Graduate Edge 2011 participant

Q: What is Graduate Edge and what are some of the skills that you learnt?

Graduate Edge is program for students to connect with employers through networking events that teach skills valued by the employers. One of the main skills I learnt was ways to be creative and differentiate yourself from the rest of your applicants.

Q: What subjects were covered in the employer modules?

A range of subjects were covered from traditional areas such as Effective Communication and Interview skills to the Six Hats of Creativity and Branding.

Q: What was the best part of Graduate Edge?

The best part of Graduate Edge was meeting other students who had the same drive and goals as you. I realised that even though everyone was from different faculties and studied different degrees, we were able to bond by being at the same stage of our life, penultimate students.

Q: What advice would you give Graduate Edge 2012 participants?

Get involved and have fun! This is a great opportunity for you to network with HR, graduates and employees of professional companies. Moreover, you meet a bunch of enthusiastic young students so put your creative hats on and have fun!

Q: Why should students apply for Graduate Edge?

If you are interested in digging deeper into a company rather than just attending a graduate recruitment event. If you want to gain new skills and look into new ways to market your employability. Apply for Graduate Edge!

Q: Should students other than those from the School of Business apply?

Whist the firms involved are primarily Business related firms, it is important to remember that the skills are transferable. No matter what faculty you are from, you will still need to know how to communicate effectively, how to ace a group interview, how to brand yourself to succeed in getting an internship. Who knows, you might realise that you like an office job or that the business world is just not the right place for you!
