If you are interested in working as a volunteer for the Chancellor’s Committee to raise funds for the University, there are many ways to get involved. You can volunteer to work at:
- The Chancellor’s Committee Shop: The shop is open from 10am to 3pm Monday to Friday and volunteers usually work once a month (or more if they like) based on a roster system. Working in the shop involves over the counter sales as well as fax, mail and telephone orders. On graduation days, shop volunteers set up a stall of goods in the Quadrangle. Volunteers are given training in the use of the cash register, the eftpos machine and other shop techniques. The average customer may be a new or graduating student, a tourist, a group of touring students, or a professor looking for suitable gifts for visitors or overseas hosts.
- Bookfest: Bookfest is held once a year in September/October. You can volunteer to help price the donated books prior to Bookfest, or to help set up or work at the stalls during Bookfest, which runs for five days.
- The Antique Fair: For the annual antique fair, held in May/June, volunteers are needed to help make sandwiches and serve refreshments.
All you need to become a volunteer is tact, patience, friendliness and a cheery smile!
