Musicians at CET and the Con

The best and brightest musicians at CET and the Con!

April 2014

The Centre for English Teaching (CET) and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music (SCM) have joined forces to offer talented musicians from the Xinghai Conservatory of Music (XCM) an innovative program of English language and music training

Direct Entry Course (DEC) 36 offers selected students the opportunity to complete their fourth year Bachelor of Music Degree at SCM, whilst simultaneously preparing them for entry into the Master of Music Studies (Performance). The program has two components: English language training in DEC36 provided by CET and a choice of performance subjects delivered by the SCM. XCM students present their final fourth year XCM Bachelor of Music recital in Sydney, before a panel consisting of XCM and SCM staff.

“Sydney University cooperated with our music schools and then offered a great opportunity for us.” (Xinyu Wu, former student)

“Here the teachers are very nice. I love it here. I would recommend it to come here to study. I want to be educated here so I can teach the children in China so I can see the dream is coming true.” (Jiaju Ho, former student)

CET and SCM recently completed a new round of auditions at the end of April 2014. Dr Nicole Gallahar, Education Manager at CET, has just returned from the audition/English assessment centre at XCM, China. “The program has generated a lot of interest in just one year. The quality of students that auditioned was simply outstanding. CET and SCM’s joint program is a pathway for the best and brightest musicians to connect with the University of Sydney.” (Dr Nicole Gallahar, Education Manager CET)
