Graduate Academic Skills (GAS)

GAS is a high-level academic skills course that provides an introduction to the expectations and values of academic culture in an Australian university.

You may undertake the GAS course as part of a Customised Program during your time in Sydney. This course is normally completed full-time 20 hours per week, which is 4 hours per day (Monday - Friday) either in the morning or afternoon.

What will I learn?

  • Develop skills related to academic discussions, university assignment papers, creativity and innovation, critical thinking and collaboration.
  • Participate in lectures, tutorials and group activities, including a project assignment that involves exploring Sydney’s suburbs.
  • Develop digital competencies necessary for university success, such as collaboration on discussion boards, creation of blogs and video materials, and use of eLearning platforms for project proposals.
  • Develop skills in self-reflection, self-assessment and autonomous learning.


AUD$1000 for 1 week.

AUD$1440 for 2 weeks, AUD$460 per week after.

Credit card surcharges

Course payments made by credit card (Visa or Mastercard) will incur a surcharge of 1.53% of the total cost.

Overseas Health Cover (OSHC)

If you are intending to study under a student visa, you will need Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). CET can arrange OSHC for you with Allianz as part of the application process. Simply indicate the type of insurance required (single/dual/family) on step 2 of the application form. You may also arrange your own cover from any of the government approved providers below:
