I am pleased to welcome readers to the second edition of the China Express. The aim of the China Express is to highlight the diverse range of research in China Studies and research collaborations with Chinese institutions conducted by academics of the University, and to provide an introduction to some of the many initiatives of the University in relation to China.

In this edition, we look at the research of members of two out of the 17 academic groups of the China Studies Centre – International Relations, and Social and Political Change. Professor Li Huai (李怀教授), from the North-West Normal University, Lanzhou, Gansu Province (西北师范大学, 甘肃省), has provided an overview of his work as an introduction to his planned visit to the China Studies Centre later in 2012 as a visiting staff member, and Professor David Goodman, CSC Academic Director, has provided us with a collection of photos from his personal collection, documenting the changes that have occurred in China in the 30 years of his time visiting China as a Chinese politics expert. We hope that you enjoy this edition from the China Studies Centre.
