The next generation has a unique and exciting challenge: learning, living and prospering with a resurgent China.

Over the last decades China has dramatically lifted the quality of life for hundreds of millions of its citizens. At the same time, China’s economic and social flowering has included the development of strong links between Australia and China. Our business and people to people connections are greater than ever before.

In Sydney and New South Wales, we have a longstanding Chinese community and have welcomed thousands of Chinese students. Sydney is the gateway also for cultural exchange, trade and investment between our two countries.

Given the fundamental importance of understanding and engaging with China, for the continuing benefit of both of our countries, I am delighted to welcome the establishment of the University of Sydney China Studies Centre.

I am delighted to serve as patron and I invite you to join the friends of the China Studies Centre, and come on a journey of enrichment, enquiry and friendship.
