China Studies Centre Memberships

The China Studies Centre (CSC) has three categories of Members. The membership applications are reviewed and submitted to the CSC Steering Committee, and approved annually by the CSC Board of Management.

The three categories of membership are:


Members of the Centre are those with a conferred academic title within the University of Sydney, with academic interests in China and/or pursuing academic collaborations with China. This includes honorary staff and emeriti of the University.

Members must also be a member of at least one Academic Cluster.

  • Language, Literature, Culture and Education (LLCE)
  • Science and Technology
  • Wellbeing

Members are able to apply for the CSC small research grants scheme and other funding opportunities as they are available. Members shall notify their cluster’s convener and the CSC Administration Officer of any change to their status within the University of Sydney.

Student Members

Student Members are currently enrolled students of the University of Sydney.

Student Members may be eligible to apply to be
unior Policy Associates and are eligible to apply for various student support schemes if available.

Research Students (Masters by Research and PhD students) who are also Student Members of the CSC are eligible to join the Sydney China Studies Students’ Society (SCSSS),which offers a support network for research students focusing on China-related topics.

Associates include academic and honorary staff members and students from institutions other than the University of Sydney, independent researchers who wish to be associated with the China Studies Centre, individuals who have engaged with China in the fields of business, politics, culture, or other relevant non-academic areas. Associates also include professional staff of the University of Sydney, and members of the public with a general interest in China.

Associate Members are not eligible to apply for CSC funding, but are welcome and encouraged to attend and participate in CSC events.
