In response to the University's 2016-2020 Strategic Plan and the strategic themes of engagement and simplification, the Social Inclusion Unit now operates under Global Student Recruitment and Mobility – Undergraduate Recruitment.
To prepare, motivate and engage young people, with the support of their communities, to access, participate and succeed in higher education.
At The University of Sydney we believe that education should be accessible to all students, whatever their social or cultural background. We recognise the need to bring people together from a range of backgrounds, to best prepare them for future leadership in diverse communities.
Under these guiding principles we aim to:
- Increase access to and participation in higher education for students from Low Socio-Economic (Low SES); regional and remote and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds
- Inform policy and research on widening participation and equity strategies; build capacity and skill in cultural competence and inclusive teaching
- Engage and connect with students, teachers, family and community influencers to foster sustained change in beliefs and attitudes about higher education
- Offer educational experiences that allow University of Sydney students to foster graduate attributes such as leadership and cultural competence through service learning and volunteer programs.
