Widening Participation and Outreach sits within the Global Student Recruitment & Mobility portfolio under the direction of Michelle Carlin, Executive Director, Global Student Recruitment and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Registrar, Professor Tyrone Carlin.


Mary Teague

Head - Widening Participation


Mary's role is focussed on progressing University-wide programs and Faculty based projects to support Widening Participation. Her primary objective is to increase the participation of students from low socio-economic backgrounds, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and regional students within the University of Sydney. This includes working collaboratively with Educational Innovation to implement and oversee the Widening Participation Network and grants program.


Sophie Partridge

Coordinator – Schools Outreach & Regional Projects


Sophie is developing the strategy for schools outreach and engagement; undertaking a review of the schools we work with and the evaluation framework that will be used to measure our outcomes and success.

Indigenous Student Recruitment Manager


Sarina is responsible for the development and implementation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student recruitment strategies and management of associated budgets, evaluation and reporting. Sarina also manages our outreach programs to identified schools in metropolitan and south-west Sydney.


Josie Wilson

Team Leader - Operations and Events
Josie Wilson

Josie leads and supports programs and initiatives to build school and community capacity to attend higher education and to increase the participation of students from identified cohorts. Josie is responsible for securing new partnerships with schools and their communities, industry and non-government agencies.


Mitchell Whitely

Indigenous Student Recruitment Assistant


Mitch assists with the organisation and implementation of outreach activities in support of Indigenous recruitment. Mitch represents the University at school visits, careers markets and cultural events.


Amy Bywater

Amy Bywater

Amy coordinates the content development and implementation of our Primary and High School programs. A part of this role she liaises with school staff at Compass partner schools and is also responsible for the management of internal and external partnerships related to program content development.


Bianca Williams

Bianca Williams

Bianca is responsible for a range of academic enrichment activities in schools and in community supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families to navigate the ropes of higher education.

Natalie Hull

Natalie coordinates Compass’ suite of volunteer programs which includes the recruitment and training of University volunteers; and implementation and coordination of these programs in Compass partner primary and high schools and Intensive English centres across Sydney.

Dorothy Tran

Dorothy coordinates and manages a range of on-campus events and activities. Her role includes university staff, students and key internal and external stakeholders event content development, logistics and operations support and liaison; training and management of Compass student leaders; and event promotion and implementation.

Tristan Worledge

Project Officer - Schools Outreach


Tristan is responsible the coordination and delivery of the school based outreach programs. He has long been involved with the University of Sydney where he completed both his pre-school and undergraduate education. Tristan has a professional background in teaching and administration, having taught Maths and Science in both the UK and Australia before returning to the University of Sydney to support students through the University’s direct application process.

Lily Tang

Lily provides administrative and logistical support to the events team. Assisting in the operations of events and the unit, she supports and liaises with staff, students and key internal and external stakeholders, contributing to the planning and delivery of events.

Nicholas Hollins

Nicholas is the editor of A•STAR. Responsible for publishing articles, managing a growing team of contributors, social media, publicity, documenting Compass programs and encouraging students to tell their own stories.

Sarah supports the Compass schools team providing a wide range of administrative services.
