Volunteer with Compass

Volunteers are an integral part of the Compass Program.
Compass volunteers provide profound educational opportunities to students at our partner schools. They help school students with reading and homework, and deliver enriched learning experiences. Hundreds of school students across Sydney have benefited from the expertise and enthusiasm of the yellow shirted Compass volunteers.
We are seeking passionate and committed individuals to volunteer with Compass. This is your chance to take part in a program that is making a significant contribution to the wider community.
Why volunteer?
By committing only 3 hours per week, you can:
- Make a difference in the lives and education of school students.
- Improve your skills through the comprehensive volunteer training program and gain experience that employers seek.
- Change your perspective as you become a valued member of our schools’ diverse communities.
- Have fun, meet like-minded volunteers and make new friends.

How to get involved

There are three steps to becoming a Compass volunteer.
Application
Complete an online application form. The application will take 15-20 minutes to complete and covers your interests and experience.
Interview
All on-time applications will be reviewed by Compass staff. Shortlisted applicants will then be contacted by phone to arrange 30 minute interviews with Compass staff at the University of Sydney, Camperdown campus.
If you are shortlisted for interview, you will need to complete a NSW Working with Children Check Applicant Declaration and Consent form and bring it with you to the interview. You will also need to bring 100 points of identification (original documents only).
Compass staff will conduct referee checks of applicants after interviews.
Training
Successful applicants must attend Compass volunteer training.
New volunteers will begin at schools after successful completion of training.
