Homework Club (High School)

As a Homework Club (High School) volunteer, you will help students attending an after school homework centre based in their school’s library. The students will have diverse learning needs and with your help they will develop lifelong independent learning and research skills. You will also be instilling an understanding of the value of the library in the school and wider community.
The homework centre is a flexible learning environment and the help you provide can change significantly each week. Students range in age from Years 7 to 12 and you may work with them one-one-one or in small groups. Individuals with expertise in specific subject areas (such as English, Maths, Science and more) are encouraged to volunteer.
Who should volunteer?
Join this volunteer program if you are:
- Interested in helping students aged 13 to 18
- Knowledgeable in specific subject areas
- Comfortable working in a flexible learning environment (with different tasks each week)
- Confident working with small groups of students as well as one-on-one
- Available to volunteer each week for the duration of the program

Volunteers must be available for all 13 weeks in order to participate.
Time commitment
Volunteers will need to be available for one 3.5 hour period per week after 3.00pm, Monday – Friday. This period includes 90 minutes of volunteering in school, and 2 hours of travel time to the school. You will volunteer at the same time each week.

Where
Volunteers are placed at one high school for the duration of the program.
Cost
Compass will reimburse transport costs / mileage to a maximum of $20 per week.
