This program offers flexible multidisciplinary education delivered online for busy professionals in the rapidly developing field of developmental disabilities.
The Master of Health Science (Developmental Disability) is designed to provide the opportunity for practitioners from a range of medical, nursing, dental, allied health, therapy, social work, behavioural science, educational and other professions to develop specialist skills underpinned by theory, scholarship and research in the field of developmental disabilities. The course equips students to contribute to multidisciplinary practice in a manner that is characterised by respect for individuals with a developmental disability, their families, advocates and communities.

You will follow a prescribed course of study with a total of 48 credit points (cp) consisting of one core unit (6cp) and seven elective units (42cp).

Graduate opportunities
The Master of Health Sciences (Developmental Disability) looks to expand the knowledge and understanding of the difficulties faced by people with developmental disabilities, enhancing the skills of professionals to respond to the challenges faced by the sector.
As Australia moves toward the National Disability Insurance Scheme there will be an unprecedented need for well-trained, research-literate leaders in disability services and policy and this course offers ideal preparation for individuals who wish to meet that demand.
Course accreditation
This unique course was originally developed as a collaboration between the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Centre for Developmental Disability Studies, by a team of nationally recognised researchers and practitioners in developmental disability.

Applications for the Sydney Master of Health Science (Development Disability) are made through the Faculty of Health Sciences. On-time applications for the March Semester close on the last working day of November. This course does not have a July intake.
Admission requirements
In order to qualify for admission, applicants must have one of the following:
• A bachelor's degree in an area of occupational relevance
such as health sciences, allied health/therapy (physiotherapy,
occupational therapy, speech pathology), medicine, dentistry,
nursing, welfare, psychology, behavioural, social, educational
or biomedical sciences.
• Overseas qualifications acceptable to the Faculty
• Other general and professional qualifications and/or
experience as will satisfy the Faculty that the applicant
possesses the educational preparation and capacity to
pursue graduate studies, and satisfy such additional
requirement for admission to the program as may be
prescribed by the Faculty
As students will be studying online, access to a computer with internet connection is essential.
International students

This 2012 tuition fee for a domestic postgraduate student represents the fee that is payable by you in the calendar year you commence your course, commencing in 2012 for a standard annual full time load of 48 credit points (1.0 EFTSL). In addition to the fees indicated here for the course of study, International Students studying on an Australian Student Visa must have appropriate health insurance for the duration of their studies on a Student Visa through an approved provider of the Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) scheme.
