A major in the Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Music Studies is defined as a principal study. Enrolment in a principal study is compulsory in all Conservatorium courses. Principal study in Composition involves individual lessons and seminars.

Study plan

Bachelor of Music (Composition) students undertake one 6 credit point (cp) unit of study in their principal study in each of the eight semesters that make up the four year degree. Bachelor of Music (Music Education) and Bachelor of Music Studies (Composition) students will complete a minimum of six units of study in their principal study.

Graduate opportunities

A principal study in Composition will develop students' skills in compositional techniques and analysis and electroacoustic music. Graduates are prepared for a diverse range of career opportunities, including careers as music educators, creators, researchers and writers.

Further study for major

Eligible students may apply for the Bachelor of Music (Honours), Bachelor of Music Studies (Honours) or postgraduate coursework study in music. Honours graduates are eligible to apply for a research master's degree in one of the following areas: applied research in music performance; composition; music education; musicology; performance; preliminary; or a professional doctorate in Musical Arts.
