Veterinary Science
The degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at the Faculty of Veterinary Science will allow you to pursue research from one of a number of fields in which the faculty has expertise. Candidates will complete the degree in three to four years during which time they will undertake research culminating in the submission of an 80,000 word thesis.

Study plan
This four year full-time research degree is awarded for a thesis considered to be a substantial and original contribution to knowledge within the discipline. The length of the doctoral thesis varies but would not be expected to exceed 80,000 words. Some coursework in research techniques may be required but in no case is this a major component of the degree.
Areas of research
PhD candidates at the Faculty of Veterinary Science may undertake research in one of the following areas: animal health; animal husbandry; nutrition; anatomy; animal genetics.

How to apply
Admission requirements
Applicants of the Doctor of Philosophy should normally hold a relevant master?s degree or a bachelor?s degree with first or second class honours.
Alternatively, an applicant may be admitted having passed a qualifying examination at a standard equivalent to the bachelor?s degree with first or second class honours.
In addition to these academic requirements the head of department must certify to the faculty that your proposed course of advanced study and research is appropriate and acceptable; that you have in addition to the academic qualifications the necessary training and ability to pursue the proposed course of study and research; and that there are sufficient supervisory and other resources and facilities available to enable your candidature to be completed successfully.

This 2012 tuition fee for a domestic postgraduate student represents the fee that is payable by you in the calendar year you commence your course, commencing in 2012 for a standard annual full time load of 48 credit points (1.0 EFTSL). If your study load is more or less than the 1.0 EFSTL your fee will differ.

Additional incidental fees
For some courses there are incidental fees additional to the student contribution and/or course fee. In addition to the fees indicated here for the course of study, International Students studying on an Australian Student Visa must have appropriate health insurance for the duration of their studies on a Student Visa through an approved provider of the Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) scheme. This is a requirement of the Australian Government, unless otherwise exempted by the Government.
