Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (Special and Inclusive Education)

The Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (Special and Inclusive Education) may be undertaken full-time over one semester or, for domestic student, part-time over one year. The course does not provide a recognised teaching qualification but is part of the broader postgraduate educational studies program for leaders and future leaders of dynamic and innovative education. You should consider the Graduate Certificate in Education Studies (Special and Inclusive Education) if you're seeking a shorter period of study than that required for the Master of Education degree.
The special education specialisation is designed to help you develop the skills, knowledge and values needed to specialise in the teaching of children with special-education needs, or to qualify for appointments as leaders. You will tackle the challenges of students with special education needs, early language and learning issues, preventing disruptive behaviour, and teaching students with learning difficulties. The Master of Education (Special and Inclusive Education) is recognised by the NSW Department of Education and Training as a formal qualification in special education.
Subject to meeting progression requirements in the graduate certificate, you may apply to transfer to the Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies (Special and Inclusive Education) or the Master of Education (Special and Inclusive Education).

Further course information
Candidates complete three units of study (18 credit points) from one specialisation (usually two core units of study and one elective) and select one unit of study (6 credit points) from the range of postgraduate units of study offered in the education program.
The Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (Special and Inclusive Education) has been designed to further the careers of teaching professionals, educational administrators, researchers and policy makers within specific areas of education practice.
A successful applicant for general admission to the Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (Special and Inclusive Education) will hold a Bachelor of Education; a Bachelor degree, or an equivalent qualification, with the completion of postgraduate studies, or professional experience equivalent to one year full-time, in a field appropriate to the program of studies.

Applications are made directly to the University and assessed by the Faculty. On-time applications for the March Semester close on the last working day of November. On-time applications for the July Semester close on the last working day in June.

Postgraduate Domestic Tuition Fee
This 2014, tuition fee for a domestic postgraduate student represents the fee that is payable by you in the calendar year you commence your course, commencing in 2013 for a standard annual full time load of 48 credit points (1.0 EFTSL). If your study load is more or less than the 1.0 EFTSL your fee will differ.

Additional incidental fees
For some courses there are incidental fees additional to the student contribution and/or course fee. Some of those fees are significant, for example, faculty-specific materials, tools, protected clothing and equipment. Please note that if you are classified by the University as a Research Training Scheme student in accordance with the Other Grants Guidelines (Research) 2010, you will be exempt from the payment of any SCA or tuition fees for courses undertaken as part of a Research Masters degree and Research Doctoral degree. In addition to the fees indicated here for the course of study, International Students studying on an Australian Student Visa must have appropriate health insurance for the duration of their studies on a Student Visa through an approved provider of the Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) scheme. This is a requirement of the Australian Government, unless otherwise exempted by the Government.
