The Graduate Diploma in Animal Science (Animal Breeding Management) is a distance course designed for working professionals, offered online with short residential sessions in Sydney and Armidale. Developed in response to a rapidly changing science and agricultural environment, this course combines theoretical and applied animal genetics with the skills required to participate in the enormous changes currently taking place in animal industries. The course focuses on providing you with advanced knowledge of human and organisational behaviour, communication, leadership, change management and a range of leadership and managerial skills while participating in teams to solve technical problems in animal genetics, breeding and biotechnology. The Graduate Diploma may include a supervised research project and is part of an embedded program in animal breeding management. Subject to meeting progression requirements, you may apply to transfer to the Master of Animal Science (Animal Breeding Management).
A candidate for the Graduate Diploma in Animal Science (Animal Breeding Management) will satisfactorily complete units of study granting 36 credit points by coursework, including core and elective units of study.

Graduates of the Graduate Diploma in Animal Science (Animal Breeding Management) will be well positioned to provide outstanding advice, planning and service to animal industry organisations, rural services, government bodies and in private consultancies operating in the areas of animal breeding, genetic improvement and breeding program design.
A successful applicant for admission to the Graduate Diploma in Animal Science (Animal Breeding Management) will:
(a) hold a bachelor’s degree or higher award from the University of Sydney, or equivalent qualification, in veterinary science, animal science or agriculture; or
(b) have completed the requirements of an embedded graduate certificate in this discipline from the University of Sydney, or equivalent qualification.
Some previous study in genetics will be necessary. Applicants should contact the faculty for more information.

Applications are made directly to the University and assessed by the Faculty. On-time applications for the March Semester close on 30 January. On-time applications for the July Semester close on 30 June. Late applications will be accepted, but priority is given to those who submit before the application deadline.

Overseas applicants can only study this course in their home country and may apply (i) directly to the University, or (ii) through a University overseas representative (education agent). This course is not available to international students studying in Australia with a student visa.

Postgraduate Domestic Tuition Fee
This 2014, tuition fee for a domestic postgraduate student represents the fee that is payable by you in the calendar year you commence your course, commencing in 2013 for a standard annual full time load of 48 credit points (1.0 EFTSL). If your study load is more or less than the 1.0 EFTSL your fee will differ.
