Computer Science


A postgraduate major in computer science involves the advanced study of computers and the programs that run on computers. This major will appeal to the strongly technically-minded students who wish to contribute to the future development and support of technology. You may engage in areas of studying including pervasive computing, algorithms, and information visualisation.

Study plan

To meet requirements for the computer science major a candidate will complete 18 credit points (cp) from units available within that major. In addition, candidates will complete the unit INFO5990 Professional Practice in IT (6cp).

Graduate opportunities

Graduates in computer science will possess an excellent combination of knowledge and practical, hands-on expertise to influence and reinforce an organisation's technology infrastructure and to support the people who use it. They will often be responsible for selecting and deploying software products appropriate for an organisation. They may also be involved in creating and managing business applications, web sites, systems and the IT environment in all types of industries.
