Software Engineering


From the evolving internet, to the growth of mobile, handheld and embedded devices, the critical need for engineers who can build our virtual world gets greater by the day. A postgraduate major in software engineering will address all aspects of software production, from strategy and design to coding, quality and management. You may engage in areas of study including object-oriented design, e-commerce technology, enterprise scale software architecture.

Study plan

To meet requirements for the software engineering major a candidate will complete 18 credit points (cp) from units available within that major. In addition, candidates will complete the unit INFO5990 Professional Practice in IT (6cp). Candidates may count either COMP5028 or COMP5214 or INFO5110 towards this major, but not more than one of these foundational units.

Graduate opportunities

Software engineering graduates will find employment opportunities in information technology, database management, multimedia and telecommunication software systems, language compilers, internet programming, real-time software engineering, control systems, biomedical systems and artificial intelligence.
