What you’ll study

The Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) is one year of full-time study commencing in semester one only. The honours program has two components: coursework and a thesis. Throughout the course, you will develop advanced discipline and research knowledge and skills, critical analysis and problem-solving capabilities, and written and oral communication abilities.

Honours students study coursework comprising of research philosophy and design, research methods, and theory within your chosen discipline. Depending on your chosen specialisation, coursework may be completed in semester one or across semesters one and two.

The thesis is a 20,000-word research-based dissertation on a topic in which you will have a strong intellectual interest. Candidates will investigate an area that makes a relevant contribution to and extends the existing body of knowledge in this area. The quality of the research design, development of the research question, application of appropriate methodologies and interpretation of findings, and your ability to effectively communicate this research are assessed in the thesis.

How to apply

Before applying

Students must commence the Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) in Semester 1, there is no mid-year intake. If you’re offered a place in honours, you can't defer your offer, you will need to reapply the following year. Your new application will be assessed for the subsequent intake, and it is not guaranteed that you’ll receive an offer.

If you intend to apply during the final semester of your undergraduate degree or combined undergraduate degree, it's recommended you complete all degree requirements during that final semester. If you complete requirements during summer, you may not be awarded your degree in time for offers. You can apply for honours while you are still studying your undergraduate degree. If you are successful you will be issued a conditional offer and once your final academic transcripts are uploaded your offer will convert to unconditional.

All students who plan to undertake the Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) must submit an application to the University.

Students are encouraged to commence the application process in their final year of the Bachelor of Commerce, or equivalent degree at another institution.
