What you’ll study

The Master of Crosscultural and Applied Linguistics will equip you with range of skills to address issues in language and communication across areas ranging from marketing to education, community relations, media, medicine and business.

You will complete core units to develop foundational knowledge of concepts and methods in linguistics and an awareness of the connections between language, culture and society, culminating in a capstone professional practice unit. You will also have the opportunity to complete elective units as needed from across the University to make up the required credit points for the degree.

Qualifications

Mandatory for course entry

Entry in the 1 year or 2 year degree program is determined by the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) criteria below:

Admission to candidature for the Master of Crosscultural and Applied Linguistics (2 years full-time) requires:

  •  a bachelor's degree with a minimum credit (65%) average calculated over the whole degree, from the University of Sydney, or an equivalent qualification.

Admission to candidature for the Master of Crosscultural and Applied Linguistics (1.5 years full-time) requires:

  • a bachelor's degree with a minimum credit (65%) average in a relevant discipline, calculated over the whole degree, from the University of Sydney, or an equivalent qualification; or
  • completion of the embedded Graduate Certificate in Crosscultural and Applied Linguistics with a minimum credit (65%) average, or an equivalent qualification; or
  • relevant professional work experience.

Admission to candidature for the Master of Crosscultural and Applied Linguistics (1 year full-time) requires:

  • completion of the embedded Graduate Diploma in Crosscultural and Applied Linguistics with a minimum credit (65%) average, or an equivalent qualification; or
  • an Honours degree in a relevant discipline; or
  • relevant professional work experience and a bachelor's degree with a minimum credit (65%) average or an equivalent qualification.

If you do not meet the requirements listed above for direct entry to the Master’s degree, you may be able to enter via a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in the same subject area and upgrade to the Master’s after successful completion of the shorter course.
