Film and Digital Art


Film and digital art will provide you with a comprehensive introduction to the media of digital film, digital sound, animation and interactive media in the context of contemporary art and cinematic practice.
The film and digital art studio encourages the development of individual projects that have distinctive conceptual, aesthetic and technical outcomes. This also includes instruction in the use of film and video cameras, location and studio sound recording techniques, location and studio lighting, digital video editing and motion graphics. You will be encouraged to explore and experiment with the full range of media and technology available in the studio. Outcomes can include the production of digital films, video or sound installations, interactive works and animation projects.

Study plan

First year is a mixture of interdisciplinary and studio-specific units of study. From second year on students undertake a 12-credit point film and digital art studio major each semester. The major study is combined with a 3-credit point elective to enable you to further tailor your study to desired outcomes. You are also required to complete 3-credit point studio theory in media arts and a 6-credit point theoretical enquiry unit each semester.

Graduate opportunities

Film and digital art graduates become practicing artists, including video and filmmakers, sound artists, web and multimedia designers. They also establish careers in a wide range of art, design and culture related fields including: art education, arts administration, arts writing, curating, set and exhibition design, public art, digital imaging, film, video and television production and post-production, animation, the multimedia industry, website and interactive design.

Further study for major

Eligible students may apply for admission to the Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours) or postgraduate coursework study in studio art, film and digital image or interactive and digital media. Honours graduates are eligible to pursue a higher degree by research.
