Practitioners with the Horticultural Technologies specialisation have a developed understanding of crop physiology and the importance of pre- and post-harvest crop management for maximising yield and minimising waste as part of the supply chain. Students will know the key fruit and vegetable production and supply issues both nationally and internationally, understanding evolving production systems and supply chains, resulting in improved nutrition and promoting ethical changes. By developing skills in research and extension students will understand the latest research in sustainable horticultural practices, integrated water and nutrition management, and supply change management.
Relevant tertiary qualification, professional qualification, or appropriate professional experience
Master of Agriculture candidates meet the requirements of this specialisation by completing a relevant research project (comprised of four core units of study equal to 24 credit points) supervised by an academic staff member. Graduate Diploma and Graduate Certificate candidates complete at least two core units of study as specified for Horticultural Technologies.
A capstone experience comprises one or more units of study designed by the faculty to provide students with an opportunity to draw together the learning that has taken place during the award, synthesise this with their prior learning and experience, and draw conclusions that will form the basis for further investigation, and intellectual and/or professional growth. For the Master of Agriculture all candidates will undertake a research project as a capstone experience. The project enables students to develop skills in cross-disciplinary thinking and project management and comprises four units of study being Research Proposal and Approach (AFNR5904), Research Review (ANFR5901), Research Paper (ANFR5905), and Research Communication (AFNR5906). The research project defines the specialisation in the degree.
