The Sydney Master of Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations (HRM&IR) will provide you with the specialist qualification to pursue a career in human resource management, employee/employment relations, industrial relations or a related area.
The program will provide you with a thorough understanding of the issues surrounding HRM and IR, and will equip you with the skills necessary to respond to the rapid changes currently reshaping local and international work practices. You will be taught by globally respected academics, many of whom contribute to groundbreaking research.

Further course information
The Master of Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations requires the completion 60 credit points comprising two components:
(i) four core units of study (24 credit points), comprising a foundation unit, two advanced units and a capstone unit; and
(ii) six elective units of study (36 credit points).
Candidates complete four core units of study, a foundation unit, WORK5002 People, Work and Employment, two advanced units WORK6017 Human Resource Strategies, WORK6033 Organisational Sustainability and a capstone unit, WORK6034 Talent Management.
Completion of the six elective units is also a requirement. Electives are drawn from a variety of units offered by the Discipline of Work and Organisational Studies.
The foundation core unit, WORK5002 People, Work and Employment, is completed in the first semester of study and the capstone core unit, WORK6034 Talent Management, is completed in the final semester of study.
Remaining eight units are completed in any order depending on prerequisite/corequisite requirements. Electives are drawn from a variety of units offered by the Discipline of Work and Organisational Studies.
This unit examines the theories, practices and debates associated with contemporary human resource development (HRD). The unit begins with an exploration of different conceptions of learning and skill. The process of HRD is examined, with a focus on needs assessment and the delivery and evaluation of learning. The relationship between HRD and other areas of HRM is explored, particularly work organisation, performance management, remuneration and enterprise governance. The role of organisational learning and knowledge management are examined in terms of changing conceptions of organisational structure and performance. A second section of the unit places HRD in the context of the wider environment. Australian policy debates are examined and HRD systems in other countries are introduced and comparisons drawn. The likely success of skills-led models of societal, industry and enterprise development in the context of globalisation and the knowledge economy are discussed. A third section of the unit explores the relationship between HRD and careers. The causes and consequences of changing career structures, the breakdown of internal labour markets and the development of new forms of organisation are examined. Particular attention is given to the issues of executive development and succession planning.

A successful applicant for admission to the Master of Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations will hold the equivalent of an Australian bachelor's degree, graduate diploma/certificate from a recognised tertiary institution with a minimum credit (65 per cent) average. Qualifications awarded outside Australia can also be used for admission but equivalencies and entry requirements are determined based on the country, institution and qualification. In addition to the fees indicated here for the course of study, International Students studying on an Australian Student Visa must have appropriate health insurance for the duration of their studies on a Student Visa through an approved provider of the Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) scheme. This is a requirement of the Australian Government, unless otherwise exempted by the Government.
