Study plan

The Master of Medicine (Paediatric Medicine) is offered in the form of online distance education. You will complete a total of 48 credit points to be awarded the degree. The course comprises eight units of study, at least four of which are paediatric units. The school has a list of elective units that you may undertake. Other units of study, including those offered by other faculties, require the approval of both the paediatric medicine course coordinator and the unit of study coordinator.

You may enter the Master of Medicine (Paediatric Medicine) in semester 1 or 2. Enrolled students are provided with a user name and password that allows them to access a protected course website. The website provides the interactive platform for both the clinical scenarios and the facilitated discussion forums. Assessment is by performance and participation in discussion forums and by written assignment.

The course is designed to provide qualified clinicians with advanced knowledge and up-to-date skills in paediatrics. The course is developed by clinical leaders in each discipline and the curriculum reflects many key aspects of trainee specialist knowledge.

Admission requirements

A successful applicant for admission to the Master of Medicine (Paediatric Medicine) will hold a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery of the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification. In exceptional circumstances the dean may admit applicants without these qualifications who, in the opinion of the school, have qualifications and evidence of experience and achievement sufficient to successfully undertake the award.

This 2013, tuition fee for a domestic postgraduate student represents the fee that is payable by you in the calendar year you commence your course, commencing in 2012 for a standard annual full time load of 48 credit points (1.0 EFTSL). If your study load is more or less than the 1.0 EFTSL your fee will differ.

In addition to the fees indicated here for the course of study, International Students studying on an Australian Student Visa must have appropriate health insurance for the duration of their studies on a Student Visa through an approved provider of the Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) scheme. This is a requirement of the Australian Government, unless otherwise exempted by the Government.
