The aim of this unit of study is to introduce students into the practical, historical and theoretical facets in the making of sculptural works. Students will work with a broad range of materials and sculptural techniques including clay modelling, plaster-mould making, casting, soldering, brazing and welding. Emphasis is placed on developing students' awareness of the elementary aspects of three-dimensional forms in space. Students will be required to design, plan and complete two main sculptural works, utilizing mediums and techniques explored with throughout the semester. In addition to this, students will need to independently research historical precedents and contemporary practice and discuss their ideas and development of their work in class.
