Soundtrack Production for Media Art (CAEL2023)


This unit addresses the conceptual areas of sound design with a practical focus on developing digital sound recording skills and creating soundtracks for digital video using the recording industry standard Pro Tools software. Students will be introduced the basic principles involved in planning a soundtrack for a film or video project and explore different conceptual approaches to sound in media art in both the local and international context. Students complete in studio exercises and create a three-minute sound piece for assessment. This work will include recorded voice, sampled and recorded location sounds and/or music, and demonstrate conceptual proficiency and technical competency in sound design with Pro Tools software.

Lecture and directed contact over 12 weeks, plus self-directed study; total student effort of 60hrs


1x assessment task in week 4, 5 or 6 (20%) and 1x15 min oral examination of presentation of studio projects (80%) in week 15
