Public Art

DESA9009

This practical unit will provide students with the opportunity to explore changing notions of Public Art in contemporary art. The course addresses the shift of focus from the making of isolated objects in space, to more self-reflexive modes of art making that use public space as a medium. Students will be introduced to early experimental works ranging from Land Art to Psychogeography, to more recent works in street art, public interventions and spatial mapping. During the course, students will develop a series of propositional based public art works in a range of materials that are then realised in public spaces.
