However, management attempts to subordinate individuals' motivations to that of the organisation. This unit examines the social science theories that offer explanations allowing organisations to harness the best from the individuals that comprise it; the physical workplace effects individuals, hence organisations.Of great importance to the organisations are the areas of industrial relations and human resource management, as they are key to maintaining a harmonious working environment. Clearly, the facilities manager is part of the team ensure harmony prevails.This unit examines six areas: the individual in an organisation; groups in an organisation; the structure of the organisation; the way organisations evolve and change; organisational management; industrial relations.
